Mission Statement
In order to make Berks County a better place to live, the Redevelopment Authority provides access to federal, state, and local funds for community redevelopment and housing rehabilitation.
About the Redevelopment Authority
The Redevelopment Authority was formed in 1961 under Pennsylvania’s Urban Redevelopment Law. Its mission is to eliminate blight and dangerous conditions. The Authority is authorized by the Board of County Commissioners and operates independently. Building a vibrant community, through eliminating blight and dangerous conditions is a collaborative effort. The Authority is in partnership with County government and local municipalities, Pennsylvania state agencies, area non-profits, and community groups. Our focus is to locate and support economic development opportunities for business owners and developers, as well as to assist local businesses with obtaining the capital they seek to invest and expand.
In the past 50-plus years, the Redevelopment Authority has played an important part in helping to make Berks County a great place to live, work and play. It has worked in everything from flood recovery efforts to management of the County’s federal entitlement housing and community development programs. It fulfills its role in the County’s community revitalization, using tools and funding programs administered by federal, state and local government agencies.

RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM - Launched 10/06/2026
The Rental Assistance Program (RAP) provides short-term rental and housing assistance to eligible individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of losing their housing. The program is designed to help prevent homelessness and promote housing stability.
How to Apply
Individuals and families seeking Rental Assistance may obtain paper applications at 400 E Wyomissing Avenue Ground Floor, Suite 2 Mohnton, PA 19540. Online applications are available as well.

Normal hours of operation is Monday-Friday 9am-4pm.

PROGRAMA DE ASISTENCIA AL ALQUILER - Lanzado el 06/10/2026
El Programa de Asistencia para el Alquilar (RAP) proporciona ayuda temporal para alquiler y vivienda a personas y familias elegibles que están en situación de falta de vivienda o en riesgo de perder su vivienda. El programa está diseñado para ayudar a prevenir la falta de vivienda y promover la estabilidad de la vivienda.
Cómo solicitar
Las personas y familias que busquen Asistencia para el Alquiler pueden obtener solicitudes en papel en 400 E. Wyomissing Avenue Ground Floor, Suite 2 Mohnton, PA 19540. Las solicitudes tambien están disponibles en línea.

WHOLE HOME REPAIR PROGRAM
- PROGRAM UPDATE 1/29/25 - Effective 12/2/24 - We began maintaining a waiting list, due to the Commonwealth not providing funding for the 2025-26 budget for the Berks County Whole Home Repairs Program.
