Each year, the Berks County Fire Training Center offers several testing opportunities for personnel to obtain their Pro Board certification through the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy. Certifications offered at the Berks County Fire Training Center include Haz Mat Awareness, Haz Mat Operations, Firefighter I and Firefighter II.

Applications, Candidate Handbooks, and Candidate Skill Sheets can be found on the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy website at https://www.pa.gov/en/agencies/osfc/pa-firefighters/certifications.html.

If you are interested in testing for any of the certifications offered, download the appropriate application and supporting documents from the fire academy website and complete the application with the following requirements:

• Application must be typed, complete, and have the required signatures. Any incomplete or handwritten applications will not be accepted.
• Application must be submitted no later than the end of business on the application due date.
• Include with your application, a check for $100.00 made payable to “County of Berks” with the candidate’s name in the memo field. Separate checks must be included for each applicant.

To support the certification process, the County of Berks will reimburse all Berks County emergency service personnel who complete the written and skills examination in the first attempt of testing. Out-of-County personnel will be assessed the $100 fee regardless of the outcome of testing.
