Below please find a summary describing MDJ and staff coverage in the Berks County Central Arraignment Court (Night Court/Magisterial District 23-0-01) beginning August 5, 2024:

MDJ Coverage in BCCAC:

Weekdays:

  • The duty MDJ will work from 7 PM to midnight (personally present in the BCCAC or available via video conferencing).

Weekends or holidays:   

  • The on-call duty MDJ will be available from 9 AM to 7 PM. The duty MDJ will work from 7 PM to midnight (personally present in the BCCAC or available via video conferencing).

Staff coverage in the BCCAC will be as follows:

Monday through Sunday:

  • 7 PM – midnight (employee is personally present in the BCCAC). 


 

At such times when the Berks County Central Arraignment Court (Night Court/Magisterial District 23-0-01) is open and the issuing authority is either present or on-call, the following matters are deemed emergencies and are to be brought before the BCCAC:

1. Emergency petitions brought under the Protection From Abuse Act.

2.  Emergency petitions brought under the Older Adult Protective Services Act.

3.  Arraigning defendants and setting bail in court cases.

4.  Issuing arrest warrants pursuant to Pa.R.Crim.P. No. 509.

5.  Issuing search warrants pursuant to Pa.R.Crim.P. 200 and Pa.R.Crim.P. 203.
