Berks County Probation & Parole

Firearms Suppression Unit (FSU)

The Berks County Probation & Parole Firearms Suppression Unit (FSU) is a specialized supervision unit that addresses specific criminogenic needs of individuals who are convicted of firearms related offenses through the application of evidence-based tools in combination with substantial community supervision.

FSU officers are trained in many EBP's such as case planning and motivational interviewing. These skills along with cognitive behavioral groups provided by the unit help reduce factors such as individual, environmental, sociocultural, and familial issues that place the offender at an increased risk for the use of violence or a firearm related incident.

The FSU is funded by PPCD’s Violence Intervention and Prevention (VIP) grant. This funding supports a wide range of programs and intervention strategies that address community violence through targeted interventions, reduction of risk, and restoration of community safety.
